An intense cooperation of DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Zenica-Doboj Canton has resulted with a number of activities which have contributed to the regulation and improving the adult education system in this canton.

One of this-year's joint activities includes the organisation of four round tables in Zenica-Doboj Canton with the topic „Adult Education – Opportunity for Personal, Professional, and Social Development“.

First round table was organised on Wednesday, 17th of October in Olovo, and gattered more than 20 participants from different organisations, institutions and companies from the area of the municipalities Olovo and Vareš. During the discussion they presented their previous experiences, as well as, future plans in the field of adult education, but also praised efforts of the cantonal ministry and DVV International in promoting the importance of adult education as an important factor of development of every society. Establishing the learning society is a basic trend for future development.

Meeting chairpersons were Mr Mujo Kućanović from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Zenica-Doboj Canton, and Ms Nevzeta Rezaković from the Council for Adult Education of Zenica-Doboj Canton. They presented the importance and types of adult education, legal regulation of this field, as well as functions of adult education for an individual, local community, and for the society as a whole.

General conclusion of all participants is that adult education, apart from the economic value, social-political function, and personal development and self-development, provides a compensation for personal failures occurred due to the lower flexibility of the regular education system and its discrepancies with the current needs of the labour market. Besides that, adult education, as a right of each person, must be accessible, and shools and providers of adult education are in charge for making adult education a real opportunity for his/her personal and professional development what contributes to the development of a local community as well.

The other three round tables will be held in Kakanj, on 7th of November, in Zavidovići, on 9th of November, and the last one in Zenica, on 5th of December 2018.
