With the aim of strengthening the adult education system and institutionalizing cooperation among stakeholders in the sector, the founding meeting of the Council for Adult Education was held at the premises of the Sarajevo Canton Chamber of Economy. This significant step marks a continuation of years of support for the development and reform of adult education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sarajevo Canton currently has 35 accredited adult education providers. At the meeting, 25 representatives from the public sector, private education institutions, and non-governmental organizations expressed their willingness to join forces, collaborate, and actively advocate for solutions to the challenges faced by the sector.
The Council for Adult Education was established to create a platform for continuous information exchange, activity coordination, joint advocacy, and influence on public policies related to adult education.
With the establishment of the Council, the adult education sector in Sarajevo Canton gains a legitimate and respectable interlocutor with all relevant institutions. This paves the way for a systemic articulation of the needs and proposals of field actors, ultimately contributing to the adoption of more effective, fair, and sustainable solutions.
Representatives of educational organizations emphasized the importance of improved regulation, access to funding, professionalization of staff, and the promotion of adult education as a key segment of lifelong learning and workforce development.
The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for early May, after the holidays, and the invitation remains open to adult education providers who were not able to attend the founding meeting.
