Reception in honor of German Unity Day at the Embassy with H.E. Thomas Fitschen, the Ambassador.

German Unity Day is celebrated on October 3rd as a reminder of the events from 1990, when, after 45 years of division, East Germany formally joined the Federal Republic of Germany. This marked the restoration of German unity, ending the division that followed World War II and symbolically concluding the Cold War. The unification process began with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, paving the way for the peaceful reintegration of Germany and the strengthening of European cooperation. German Unity Day stands as a symbol of freedom, democratic values, and solidarity, which Germany now celebrates as the modern foundation of its society.

For years, Germany has played a key role in supporting the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina through various projects and initiatives. The focus of German cooperation is on strengthening democratic institutions, improving the education system, economic development, and promoting the rule of law. Through numerous organizations, including DVV International - Country Office for BiH, Germany provides support for lifelong learning programs, professional training, and youth empowerment in Bosnia and Herzegovina. German-Bosnian relations are based on shared values, and their daily cooperation contributes to societal growth in line with European standards, further strengthening the ties between the two countries.

At the reception held in honor of German Unity Day at the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, among the many distinguished guests were Dženita Džano, Director of DVV International – Country Office for BiH, and Merima Bekto, Project Coordinator. They were welcomed by H.E. Thomas Fitschen, the German Ambassador to BiH, as they together marked this important day, emphasizing the importance of German-Bosnian relations and shared values.
