New Power of the IT Industry – Empowering Women for Employment in the IT sector is a month-long project implemented in 2020 by the Center for Education and Research Nahla with support of the DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina and the MarketMakers project.

Through this project, we intend to contribute to increasing employment of women in the IT sector in Sarajevo Canton, increase and promote employment opportunities in the IT sector for women, develop/improve IT competencies of unemployed women, and strengthen socio-emotional competencies of long-term unemployed women.

As a registered adult education provider, the Center has accredited two adult education programs within the project:

  • Data Science with 132 teaching hours, and
  • Training for User Interface/User Experience Design with 120 teaching hours.

The first program, Data Science, was piloted from May to September 2020 for 15 unemployed female participants. The program contained in total 120 hours realized in five modules:

  1. Writing T-SQL queries on the SQL server;
  2. Manipulation, analysis, and visualisation of data in Microsoft Excel;
  3. Power BI for Data Science,
  4. Basics of the Python programming language,
  5. Application of the Phyton programming language in Data Science.

All participants have completed the training successfully and have been trained for dealing with the tasks of Junior Data Scientist. Some have already got a job exclusively based on the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.

Therefore, the Center organised a certificate award ceremony and gathering with the participants on Tuesday, 20 October. In the following period, Nahla's Business Community will work on networking participants and potential employers and further develop their knowledge from the fields of information technologies through the organisation of several thematic webinars.
