Participation of DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Adult Education Academy 2026 in Würzburg

Members of the DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina team, Ajla Sijerčić and Adnan Mević, participated in this year’s Adult Education Academy 2026, held from 2 to 13 February in Würzburg, Germany. The Academy brings together participants from around the world and focuses on comparative studies, international policies, and contemporary practices in adult education.

Throughout the two-week programme, participants engaged in a combination of theoretical lectures, group work, and field visits to adult education institutions across Germany. The first week was dedicated to understanding international strategies and policies in adult education. Professors and researchers delivered lectures from various European institutions, covering topics such as the politicization of education, global policy frameworks, social policy models, and the role of international organisations such as the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), and the European Association for the Education of Adults.

The second week was structured around thirteen comparative groups, each addressing a specific thematic area—ranging from peace education and intercultural dialogue, to active ageing, gender equality and inclusion, as well as adult education policy, curriculum development, and digital technologies. Participants analysed and compared national and regional approaches, discussed challenges in developing strategic documents, and exchanged experiences on institutional arrangements across different countries.

As part of the good practice segment, the DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina team delivered a presentation introducing the revision of the Strategic Platform for Adult Education in the Context of Lifelong Learning in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The presentation highlighted the importance of this revision process for enhancing the quality, coherence, and functionality of the adult education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It also outlined the activities that the DVV International – Country Office B&H implements in close cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly in strengthening strategic frameworks and institutional support for lifelong learning policies.

Participation in the Academy provided valuable insights into international trends, facilitated the exchange of experiences, and offered an opportunity to learn from diverse approaches to adult education policy development. The knowledge gained and the professional connections established will further support the ongoing work of DVV International – Country Office B&H, especially in policy development, strategic planning, and cooperation with partners working to strengthen the adult education system.

We extend our gratitude to the Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg for the opportunity to participate in the Adult Education Academy for the second consecutive year. Continued involvement in this programme enables us to learn through practice, exchange examples from different countries, and build professional networks with experts from a wide international community. Such collaboration further strengthens our capacities and supports our efforts to contribute to the development of adult education within the broader context of lifelong learning in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
