Strengthening Capacities for Quality Adult Education through Curriculum Development in the Canton Sarajevo

From April to June, a training programme entitled “Curriculum Development for Adult Education” was conducted as a three-module cycle, organized by the Council for Adult Education of the Chamber of Economy of Canton Sarajevo and DVV International – Country Office Bosnia and Herzegovina. The programme brought together representatives of institutions and organizations in Canton Sarajevo active in the field of adult education, to strengthen their capacities to develop high-quality learning programmes based on the needs of learners and the labour market.

A curriculum represents a planned and systematically designed framework for the implementation of the learning process, oriented towards achieving clearly defined goals and learning outcomes. Its development requires a careful needs analysis, an understanding of adult learning principles, and the ability to design programmes that respond to the real needs of individuals and the community.

During the three modules, participants had the opportunity to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge on adult learning principles, stages of curriculum development, needs and occupational analysis, formulation of learning outcomes, the modular approach to programme design, as well as methods for assessment and quality enhancement of curricula. Special emphasis was placed on practical work, through which participants developed their own curricula for adult education programmes.

As the final step of the process, participants developed curricula that were reviewed and professionally evaluated by experts in adult education, Jelena Jakovljević and Prof. Dr. Jovan Miljković. Their expert feedback and recommendations provided added value to the participants, enabling the improvement of the developed documents in line with contemporary approaches to curriculum development and quality standards in adult education.

This training cycle represents a significant contribution to strengthening the capacities of adult education providers to develop high-quality and relevant learning programmes. The acquired knowledge and developed curricula will contribute to improving the offer of adult education and creating greater opportunities for lifelong learning and the professional development of adults.

DVV International continues to support the development of the adult education system through activities aimed at strengthening the competencies of professionals, developing quality programmes, and promoting lifelong learning.
