Andragogical competencies are among the basic predispositions of educational work with adults. Many find adulthood lightly and treat all participants in the educational process equally regardless of age. However, adult persons have several specificities to which teachers must adjust their work to achieve the learning outcomes set by a particular program.

Identifying the lack of opportunities for developing andragogical competencies, DVV International has, for years, established cooperation with responsible ministries of education and realized a program of andragogical development, „Basic Adult Education Training“.

In 2022 this training was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Tuzla Canton and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of West Herzegovina Canton, which had earlier declared this training as publicly valid in their areas.

This year fifty participants finalized 120 hours of teaching and individual work and demonstrated andragogical competencies before the supervisors, Prof. Šefika Alibabić, Ph.D., Ass. Prof. Amina Isanović Hadžiomerović, Ph.D. and Ass. Prof. Perica Ivanek, Ph.D.

The training in West Herzegovina Canton ended with the supervision held from the 7th to the 9th of December. Twenty-one participants met all requirements to receive the publicly valid certificate on andragogical development. The certificates were awarded by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Ms. Ružica Mikulić, Deputy Director from the DVV International – Country Office BiH Ms. Dženita Džano and Project Coordinator Ms. Ajla Sijerčić.

The training in Tuzla Canton was organized between March and June 2022, and twenty-nine teachers from Tuzla, Gradačac, Teočak and Banovići completed it successfully. The publicly valid certificates were delivered by Ms. Alisa Memić, Head of the Department for Secondary and Adult Education of the Ministry of Education and Science, Mr. Zlatko Ibrišimović, Professional Advisor at the Pedagogical Institute and Ms. Sabina Šošić, Project Assistant at the DVV International – Country Office BiH.

Demonstration and supervision of skills included independently or in pairs prepared ninety-minute workshops on selected topics using the skills acquired during the training. The participants afterward received feedback from the trainers/supervisors.

Four two-day training modules and 30 hours of individual work between modules preceded the supervision. Topics of the modules were:

  • Module I - Adult learning - psychological basics, characteristics, learning styles
  • Module II - Communication, group dynamics, and managing educational group
  • Module III - Visualization and presentation in educational work with adults
  • Module IV - Interactive methods of adult education.
